Like any other town or city in the UK Stratford upon Avon has a council or a local authority which must maintain and look after its council houses within the town. Back in 1996 the Stratford District council decided to transfer this responsibility to the South Warwickshire Housing Association, also known as the SWHA.

Since this the SWHA has now merged with the Orbit Housing Group now known as Orbit Heart of England it is this organisation which is now responsible for maintaining and looking after council houses in Stratford upon Avon.

Orbit Heart of England provide such information on matters for council house owners such as rent,eviction,safety,repairs and maintenance and legal matters for all tenants of council houses.

 

If you need advice on Council Housing in Stratford upon Avon then the Stratford District Council under the 1996 Housing act are responsible for providing free advice.

This advice is provided by the “In house- Housing Advice Team

The Team is respectively based at Elizabeth House Stratford upon Avon and covers areas such as Shipston On Stour,Alcester and Southam.

The Housing Team can provide such information as housing waiting lists but they also help out people who are homeless or under threat of been made homeless by offering assistance and advice on private rented accommodation and tenancy rights.

 

Another scheme run by the Housing Advive Team is known as Home Choice Plus(another name for council house waiting lists). This scheme is to do with and provide Social Housing as it is known this scheme is primarily for people who cannot find or afford any type of suitable housing with regards to renting or buying a house on the open market.

The Stratford District Council does not own properties in the town all of these are owned by various Housing associations and the Home Choice Plus Scheme which allows tenants to apply and join the current waiting list for Council housing in the area.
