According to the latest unemployment figures for the Warwiickshire Area Stratford upon Avon suffers from the second highest rate of unemployment for this particular area in fact in the last census back in 2007 the rate of unemployment in Stratford upon Avon stood at 1.3%.The Stratford upon Avon District Council covers quite a large area consisting of Alcester,Southam,Shipston on Stour and respectively Stratford upon Avon(a area of some 378 square miles).Stratford is itself famous for its tourist industry with a large proportion of the population employed in this sector.

Tourism respectively is the main employer as you would expect with Jobs in Restaurants and Hotels and Tourist attractions this is a main factor to the local economy been the hospitality and tourism sector with some 6000 people currently employed in this field.But as with any tourist town you cannot solely rely on this type of industry.

Nearly a quarter of the Jobs in the town are to do with IT and finance plus the business sector and public administration the heath sector and education.Other job opportunities exist for people with the right training and skills because certain sectors will always have employees leave due to retirement so these particular jobs have to be filled again.

Currently some 112,000 people live in the Stratford upon Avon District of which some 57,000 were in employment if we were to break this down into different sectors we would see that 26% of the workforce work in the Banking and finance sector closely followed by 25% who are employed in the hotel and restaurant and distribution business least of all is the transport and communication sector with only 4% employed.Current earnings for these jobs at the last census back in 2006 we can compare the average earnings of somebody working in the Stratford to the rest of the country

So what sort of Jobs in the region are in growth well according to the Annual Business Inquiry Census the Banking finance and insurance sector has seen the most growth since 2005 with an increase of some 3,500 jobs been created the least increase been in the Agriculture and Fishing industry.New projects and ventures are been introduced into the town that will create new job opportunities for example the World Class Stratford Project is a long term project the aim of which is to improve Stratfords transport and enviroment systems to encourage more Business minded people to the are.

There are also various Business Start Up Centres one of which is based in Shipston On Stour its aim is to help entrepreneurs to set up there own Business or products and the South Warwickshire Business Park  which is based in Southam and is an area of office buildings and industrial warehouses.

Some of the Key employers in Stratford upon Avon area are the Royal Shakespeare Company who have recently seen a complete overhaul of the Theatre thus creating jobs in the construction and building industry others are the Stratford College Aston Martin based in Gaydon Ragdoll Productions a TV production company and Sitel UK a call and contact centre.

This year there have been slight improvements in the Job and unemployment situation in Stratford upon Avon and with the country now gradually coming out of recesssion and a new goverment in place lets hope that there latest ideas bring some positive growth to the region.
