The ever popular and well-loved Stratford upon Avon Fringe Festival is back with nine days of fantastic entertainment for all to enjoy. The Stratford upon Avon Fringe Festival will begin this Bank Holiday on the 28th of May and will run until the 5th of June 2011.
It is expected that over 100 spectacular acts from visual acts to musical acts will be taking part and performing at the festival so there is surely going to be something for everyone to enjoy for the local residents of Stratford upon Avon and Warwickshire.
Visitors to the Stratford upon Avon Fringe Festival will not be disappointed as their will 40 venues in total across the town to cater for all sorts of tastes from music to arts with some of the venues been held in pubs and cafes. For those of a creative nature free workshops will be held in Stratford town square and you can have a go at some art in the gallery at Market Square.
Acts at the Festival.
There is always a lot going on at the Stratford upon Avon Fringe Festival with famous singing acts to comedians and art exhibitions and demonstrations. In addition to all that their will be plays about Shakespeare and specialised theatre groups and performers like the “Zero Culture Theatre Company” or the “Tread the Boards” theatre group who are based in Stratford upon Avon and will be bringing their own special renditions of Shakespeare in short plays
Although there is something different on at the Stratford upon Avon Fringe Festival each year the theme of singing acts, drama groups, comedy acts,workshops and art etc basically remain the same so here are some of the main attractions you can expect to see this year at the fringe festival
Main Events and acts.
On the first day of the festival you can attend a Samba Workshop by Bo Davies at the Buzz Café between 2pm and 4pm and it’s free to enter. Or attend one of the musical events as the “Rockin Dinosaurs” will be playing at the Embassy Club located in Rother Street Stratford upon Avon and its sure to be a good night out with foot stomping rock and roll classics to look forward to.
If rock and roll music is not to your taste then one of the so called “Nu Folk” bands and said to be one of the most newest and interesting folk music bands in the UK The Jigantics will be performing at The One Elm located at Guild Street Stratford.
The Jigantics will be performing their unique and popular blend of music encompassing a wide range of different music styles including great songs and fascinating harmonies.
Then for those who love Jazz and Funk Music you will have the local band Alfonzo’s Pancake Breakfast performing at the Rose and Crown playing jazz,soul,and funk delivered with style and energy for lovers of music.
If its art is your interest then do not miss the art that will be on display at the Red Door Art Studio located on Wood Street Stratford. This is where some of Stratford’s most diverse artwork will be on display by such artists like Vicky Evans and Rachel Simpson (the art exhibition will be on show every day) pop in and see the artists at work!
You will also be able to see a whole array of art on display at the Gallery at Market Space located at the Stratford Civic Hall. Here art from Garrick Huscared and Chris King plus Sam Peacock to name just a few will be on display.
For Theatre lovers the “Tread the Boards” theatre group will be performing at the very popular Coxs Yard in the Attic Theatre they will be performing Shakespeare upon Request every day during the festival. Shakespeare upon Request is a different play every day and has an array of Shakespeare related activities where the audience can actually pick on what happens next and even become part of the play!.The “Tread the Boards” theatre company will also be performing The Ghost of William Shakespeare a chilling insight into the great bard and Shakespeare Shorts at the same venue.
In addition, the “Nose2Nose” Theatre Company will be performing “Space” at the Rose and Crown located at Sheep Street Stratford. This is a highly interactive and physically charged play by Timothy Mann which is both heart breaking and at times hilarious as it takes the audience through a spectacular tale about the space around us, expect to become part of the action if you go and see this play!
If you like, your comedy then the “Inflatables” will be performing at the Buzz Café, which is located at Henley Street Stratford upon Avon. The comics from the “Inflatables” will be creating daredevil scenes suggested by the audience so anything can happen in this madcap hour at the Buzz Café.
In addition a very famous actor and comedian will be appearing at the fringe festival this year Ardal O` Hanlon from the hit comedy show Father Ted will be performing his award winning comedy act at the Civic Hall in Rother Street. This very funny and punchy comedian will be bringing his unique one-man comedy show to the fringe festival for all to enjoy.
Another great event at the Fringe Festival will be Family Fun Days at the Stratford upon Avon Butterfly Farm located at Swans Nest Lane the days will include face painting, glitter tattoos and live music the fun days will be held on Monday30th then Wednesday June 1st and Friday 3rd of June.
The Stratford upon Avon Fringe Festival begins on Saturday the 28th of May as mentioned before and will run for nine days this is only a small selection of the hundreds of different types of acts and performers that you will be able to see during the festival.
