Stratford Grammar School

Stratford Grammar School has been recognised as one of the best state secondary schools for girls the UK. The most recent Ofsted report in 2008/2009 stated that Stratford Grammar School attained a high standard of education and that this was consistently high right across the whole school.

Stratford Grammar school provides a wide curriculum for its students with excellent range of subjects all combined with a wide array of out of class activities events and clubs.

Main Aims and Values of School:

As with all schools, the Stratford Grammar School has its values and visions for all the students that attend the school. The grammar school specialises in language and science and the girls that attend the school are taught and expected to achieve high standards of excellence in all the areas that they are taught in. The grammar school likes to think of itself as a community that is safe and caring, that all students are treated equally, and that each individual is taught to develop their full potential when it comes to a student’s academic ability.

The Grammar school also prides itself in providing a challenging and supportive environment and enabling the girls to be independent learners and instil in each student and give confidence to and encourage them to face life in the wider community when they leave the school.

Main Curriculum:

Subjects that are taught at the school range from Art and Design to Technology  each subject has been designed to enhance the knowledge in that subject and develop each students skill in that subject. The school follows the Key Stages of each subject as Key Stage 3 then GCSE followed by AS and A2 level can be attained in each particular field of study.

Key Stage 3 students will follow the learning standard then sit exams for SAT`s

Then this will be followed by GCSEs and if the student attends the Sixth form at the school then AS and A-Level standard will be taught.

The Stratford Grammar school also provides a wide range of extra curricular activities for all students to take part in and enjoy these include

·        Sports: Netball-Athletics-Badminton-Squash-Rugby-Hockey-Fencing-Football-Gymnastics-Cross Country-Self Defence-Swimming.

Overall School Performance:

The Overall School performance report by Ofsted in 2009 was excellent as the inspectors main findings for the grammar school.

In the report it indicated that the school was an extremely supportive and caring for its students. In addition the report found that students at the school maintained a high attainment of passes including the sixth form and that students overall benefited from an excellent curriculum together with a outstanding extra-curricular programme including many activities.

Going by the current grades from Ofsted here are the grades that Stratford Grammar school attained in 2009 for various components.

Judgements made by Ofsted inspectors are graded as;

1-     Outstanding

2-     Good

3-     Satisfactory

4-     Inadequate

The inspectors also found that teaching practices at the school were good and this was achieved and helped by the students. Overall, the lessons were well organised and taught at a good pace and were challenging for the students. So in that respect the grades for quality of schoolwork:

·        Purposeful Learning and the high quality of learning:2

·        Care and guidance and support:1

·        A curriculum that is appropriate and meets pupils needs and is relevant through partnership with other organiisations.1

Sixth Form at the grammar school was also good with high achievements and attainments for students especially in such subjects as English, History and Politics the overall grades for the Sixth Form were as follows:

·        Management and Leadership in the Sixth form:1

·        Sixth forms overall effectiveness:1

·        Provision of quality in the sixth form

As the Ofsted report has indicated Stratford Grammar school is an excellent choice for Higher education in Stratford upon Avon.
